LESSONS & TUITION
Whether you are picking up the sticks for the first time, or whether you've been playing for years
and want to progress to the next level, there is a lesson plan for you.
Lessons are tailored to suit the needs of the individual student, and are built around four key pillars:
1) The physical - grip, technique, posture, etc. Being able to hold the sticks effortlessly,
and address the kit properly are fundamental to musical expression and longevity.
2) Rudiments - the building blocks of drumming. Like scales for melodic instruments,
rudiments are the patterns that we use to create rhythms and phrases on the drum kit.
Often used on the sanre drum, they can be applied creatively across the entire kit.
3) Reading - understanding what music looks like. In the same way that learning how
to read simple words and phrases as a child unlocks a world of understanding, learning to read
music allows a drummer to feel comfortable in many different musical environments,
and takes them beyond relying on what they can hear and replicate.
4) Listening & Application. There is no substitute for playing along with great songs
and great drummers. Most great drummers throughout history have developed this way,
and by combining the students' song choices with some particular selections, students grow
in experience, musical vocabulary, and broaden their listening palette.
Finally, drumming must be fun. Without fun, we lose focus and our hard work begins to fade.
Lessons are designed to be fun and enjoyable, while maintaining a focus on achievement
and progress - which are the greatest motivators of all.
